Dr. Maria Scharlau is a lawyer and is directing the press and communications work of the GFF since 2021. Previously, she worked for ten years at Amnesty International on domestic issues such as police, racism and security legislation. Making complex legal issues generally understandable was core to her work when representing Amnesty in parliamentary hearings, at events and in the media. In 2014/2015, she taught basic and human rights to prospective police officers at the Berlin School of Economics and Law. She completed her law studies in Münster and Ferrara/Italy - with a focus on fundamental rights and international law. This was followed by an LLM in European law at the College of Europe in Bruges/Belgium and her legal clerkship in Berlin.
