The Society for Civil Rights (Gesellschaft für Freiheitsrechte e.V. or "GFF") is a young non-profit organisation that advocates for fundamental and human rights through strategically planned, managed and communicated legal proceedings. For our office in Berlin we are currently looking for:
Legal trainees

Placements available starting December 2022

You have completed your first legal state examination, are able to demonstrate outstanding legal skills and are particularly interested in fundamental and human rights? Then apply for a legal traineeship or elective traineeship at the Society for Civil Rights! In a young, diverse and highly motivated team, you will work on strategic litigation for civil liberties right from the start and thus have the chance to help shape this legal field of work, which is still very young in Germany.

Why "outstanding legal skills"?

Outstanding legal skills are important for working with us because we are often confronted with questions that require us not only to evaluate and use previous case law and literature, but also to find creative new legal solutions. You can demonstrate these skills through appropriate grades, but also in other ways (e.g. work samples, references). In case of doubt, please do not hesitate to ask.

Legal interns

Placements available starting January 2023

Do you study law or a related subject and have not yet passed the first legal state examination? Do you already have solid knowledge of German fundamental rights dogmatics and European law? Are you particularly interested in fundamental and human rights? Then we look forward to receiving your application for an internship at the Society for Civil Rights. In a young, diverse and highly motivated team, you will be involved in strategic litigation for civil liberties right from the start. We are able to provide an internship allowance of 400 euros, and we will also provide you with a monthly ticket for public transport in Berlin. Please note that an internship at GFF should last at least two months due to our special field of work - unfortunately, we cannot offer shorter internships or internships for pupils.

Fundraising and communications interns

Placements available starting June 2022

Do you study journalism, communications or social sciences or a related subject close to the end of your degree? Do you already have solid knowledge in marketing, fundraising, press relations or online communication/social media? Are you particularly interested in fundamental and human rights? Then we look forward to receiving your application for an internship at the Society for Civil Rights. In a young, diverse and highly motivated team, you will get involved in our press and public relations work and support the areas of administration and fundraising. We are able to pay you an internship allowance of 400 euros, and we will also provide you with a monthly ticket for public transport in Berlin. Please note that an internship at GFF should last at least three months due to our special field of work - unfortunately, we cannot offer shorter internships or internships for pupils.

Traineeships/Internships

The GFF is a young organisation that is growing very dynamically. We are always happy to receive applications from trainees and interns. But even if you have already gained some professional experience, we are looking forward to hearing from you.

Please make clear in your application why you identify with the GFF's goal of fighting for fundamental and human rights by legal means, and how you can contribute to our success with your particular skillset and experience.

We are specifically looking for applications from people who are underrepresented in the legal community, especially people of colour, people with disabilities and people from the LGBTQI+ community.
