Surveillance by the police and secret services
We are committed to ensuring that government surveillance is limited to what is necessary and proportionate – whether in the use of state trojans, strategic telecommunications surveillance, or the mass collection of movement data. A free society needs security – but without mass surveillance. When the police or secret services interfere disproportionately in people's private lives, this threatens the fundamental rights of everyone and creates a climate of intimidation.
Data collection by the state
We are fighting to ensure that government databases such as registers and directories are subject to constitutional limits. Informational self-determination must be preserved. Fundamental rights must not be undermined by excessive data collection by the government. Currently, public authorities are collecting ever-increasing amounts of personal information about citizens — from biometric data and migration registers to movement profiles. Such data collection carries considerable risks of abuse, misuse, and security breaches.
Digital economy
We are launching lawsuits to limit power in the digital space and create fair conditions for everyone. Our goal is a digital economy that respects fundamental rights instead of relying on surveillance and data exploitation. Competition, innovation, and user rights are jeopardized when digital markets are dominated by a few large companies. They then control enormous amounts of data and dictate the rules of the game on the internet. We oppose that.
Freedom online
We use strategic lawsuits and legal policy work to ensure that people's freedom is also protected online. Citizens must be able to exercise their fundamental rights in the digital space without fear of unjustified restrictions or exclusions. The internet is a central place for free expression, information, and social participation. But censorship, network blocks, and excessive content control threaten the digital public sphere. We are fighting against this.
